Young Artist Against Radicalization

SUMMARY

About the project:

The European Commission’s Eurobarometer, published on 2 August 2017, has shown that terrorism is now at the top of the list
of problems that European citizens have identified as one of the challenges currently facing the EU (44% since 2016).
On the other hand, the European Commission set up the Commission’s Expert Group on Radicalization (HLCEG-R) in September
2017.

The latter published a report on June 13, 2018, notably on the improvement of cooperation mechanisms between
Member States and practitioners, and on the means necessary for a better circulation of knowledge in terms of understanding
the process of radicalization.

The final report consists of two parts. The first part identifies a number of recommendations in the areas of anti-propaganda, the
fight against ideology and polarization of society, cooperation of prevention actors at the local level, measures in terms of
education and social reintegration. And the second part describes the structures to be put in place to improve the system, such
as setting up a Steering Board which will propose strategic priorities (orientations and actions) to the Commission in the field of
prevention of radicalization. Also the establishment of a coordination structure (“Task Force”) that will support and coordinate
the Commission’s action on the prevention of radicalization.

Particularly affected, France lived under the regime of the state of emergency, this exceptional regime adopted the evening of
the attacks of November 13 led successive governments to extend several times and remained in force 719 days, he said.
officially ended on Wednesday, November 1st. In the context of the fight against terrorism, it has enabled the Ministry of the
Interior to transfer powers reserved to the judicial authority. Certain special provisions allowed by this exceptional regime will
still apply; they were transposed into common law by the bill strengthening the internal security and fight against terrorism
adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, by 244 votes for and 22 against.
Based on this report, we have desired with our partners to set up a youth exchange entitled “Young Artist Against
Radicalization” [YAAR] “which will bring together 48 young people from 8 different countries (France, Poland, Italy, Ireland,
Spain , Tunisia, Jordan, and Egypt) in NABEUL, Tunisia, which will address the theme of prevention to radicalization through
non-formal education and artistic supports such as theater, cinema, painting, music, etc.
This youth exchange is designed and dedicated to young people interested in preventing radicalization, in an artistic approach,
by offering them the opportunity to exchange ideas and points of view, to work together and to express themselves through
non-formal education and art. For 7 days, participants will face different challenges, meet new people with different
backgrounds while sharing skills and developing new skills, but especially discover another reality through their stay in Tunisia.
At the end of this learning journey, these new skills will be a basic building block for creating opportunities and exploring new
opportunities on their way home.

Our project fits perfectly with the objectives of the Erasmus + program. Because its main objective is to raise awareness of the
different realities that surround us, in particular the importance of non-formal learning, while promoting the work of all the
actors involved in projects and activities aimed at to confront radicalization, to fight against racism, xenophobia and
discrimination and to try to build a society based on multicultural integration and freedom, equality and fraternity

objectives:

  • Raising awareness about radicalization and creating a learning space through non-formal education, an open
sharing space, mixed cultures and different environments for young people through innovative and creative tools.
  • The use of arts education, and non-formal education and sharing of good practices as a prevention tool and fight
    against radicalization.
  • Create an international platform for organizations to share their experiences and the use of art as a tool for fighting
    and preventing radicalization.
  • Better understand the opportunities of the Erasmus + program and non-formal education to promote European
values of tolerance, understanding and respect for human rights.
